macOS updates can improve security, add features and improve support for modern apps. They can also change workflow, require more performance or create problems with older professional software and accessories.
When you should update
Updating is often right when the Mac supports the version well, you need newer apps, the browser is becoming outdated, or security updates for the old version are no longer enough for your use. Remember that a security update is not always the same as a full upgrade to a new macOS generation; sometimes you can get important security fixes without changing the whole workflow.
When you should wait
Wait if you use critical software that is not confirmed compatible, if you are in the middle of an important project, or if the Mac is already close to its performance limit. You should also wait if interface changes, moved features or apps behaving differently would slow you down significantly. Always check backup first.
Older Macs need extra assessment
On older Macs, a newer macOS can make the machine slower or may not be officially supported. Unofficial solutions can work, but should be weighed against security, stability and what the machine is used for.
EasyPC can help assess it
We can check model, drive health, backup, software needs and possible upgrade path before you change the system. The goal is for the Mac to become more useful, not just newer.
