A MacBook screen can crack, show lines, flicker, display a distorted image or stay completely black. Damage often happens from pressure in luggage, drops, or opening the lid with one hand so the panel twists. Before replacement, we should check whether the fault is the display itself, display cable, backlight, hinges or motherboard.

MacBook display prices vary widely between Air, Pro, size, generation, color and panel type. Old fixed price examples are therefore not reliable. The right approach is to identify the model and get an updated price from the price guide or workshop.

Symptoms of a faulty screen

Typical signs are cracked glass or panel, vertical or horizontal lines, flickering image, dark areas, image disappearing when the lid moves, or a black screen while the machine otherwise starts.

When it may be something other than the screen

If an external monitor also shows no image, the machine does not start, or there are signs of liquid damage, diagnosis should come before ordering a display. The issue may be graphics, power, display cable or motherboard.

What we need for the right price

Send the model number, size, color and preferably a photo of the damage. Also mention whether it followed impact, pressure in a bag/suitcase, or whether the image disappears when the lid moves. Small differences between generations can mean that displays which look identical still do not fit.

The model year is especially important on MacBook. Older Retina MacBook Pro models from 2012-2015 use displays that are becoming harder to source, while newer MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models often have better parts availability but more variants in size, color and generation. We should check the part before promising price or timing.

How long does screen replacement take?

The labor is often fairly quick once the correct display is ready, but waiting time depends on parts availability. You receive confirmation before we order the part, and a price before we continue.

If the display is in stock, the repair can often be scheduled shortly after drop-off. If the display must be ordered, shipping and the correct color/model are usually what determine waiting time.

Before booking screen replacement

Send a photo of the MacBook, a photo of the damage and model information from the underside or About This Mac. Then we can see whether a display should be ordered, whether the machine needs diagnosis first, or whether the repair is not worth it.
